熱刺是英格蘭足球傳統上最富娛樂性及受歡迎的大球會之一，亦是首支在二十世紀締造聯賽及足總盃雙料冠軍的隊伍，時為1960/61球季。至1963年熱刺又登上歐洲盃賽冠軍盃寶座，乃是第一支贏得歐洲大陸重要賽事錦標的英國球隊[2]。在1970年代，他們兩奪聯賽盃以及成為首屆歐洲足協盃冠軍；1980年代成功衞冕足總盃冠軍，其中1983/84球季的時候又再度在歐洲足協盃掄元。自1990年代以後，則陸續增添了一個足總盃和兩個聯賽盃金牌，而近年熱刺在聯賽的表現穩步上揚，並且經常地參與歐洲賽事。
由於熱刺的傳統主場球衣為白色，使得熱刺球迷素來被稱為「白百合」（Lilywhites）。而熱刺早於第一次世界大戰時期已經開始與近鄰阿仙奴發展為宿敵，兩隊之間的對壘即為著名的「北倫敦打吡」。
